Weekend Drinks

Pandora’s (Juke) Box

We stopped in at Rialto for an early evening 1-2 to start the night. An MP3 Juke Box has been installed since our last visit. Now maybe it’s just us, but this seems like a mistake. We love a Juke Box, but they should either set the tone of place or set a challenge. The unlimited choice offered by the MP3 means we’re going to hear someone’s personal collection. Despite this the drinks went down nicely and we moved on when the dj started work.

On to The Orchard for a seat at the bar and a few beers. Now this place has probably the friendliest bar staff in town. It’s also quite a nice place to spend a few hours, having a ‘neighbourhood’ bar feel about it. Where Rialto’s owner has spent a lot of money to recreate an East Village bar by design, The Orchard just about pulls it off without even trying. Nice touches with the Recycled bar from Gleneagles Hotel and the floor from Comely Park School gym. It does have its flaws but more about that later.

A nightcap in the newly refurbished Wellington Bar makes us wonder why they bothered spending money on the place. It looks cleaner, smells better and the toilets don’t make us gag but it’s the same old crowd.
